Genpower has experienced exceptional growth in recent years, but as an importer and distributor of Hyundai machinery, we were affected by the sudden fall in exchange rates after Brexit. SME Finance Partners helped Hatfield Colliery Partnership Limited from October 2014 following the sudden departure of our Finance Director. Chris Thomas stepped in as our FD at a hugely difficult time when the business was facing the threat of immediate insolvency, and he worked with the Directors and our legal advisors to formulate a “Managed Closure Plan” for the business. This originally involved a Commercial Loan and latterly State Aid funding from UK Government. This successfully avoided immediate insolvency, allowed mining to continue until June 2015 when production ceased, and allowed for the orderly closure of the business. Chris dealt with complex matters and managed relations with key stakeholders and advised the Board with integrity, honesty and a great deal of professionalism.
